About the band
Patch7 is the re-imagining of this blues and rock band formerly named The Spirits Within. Formed as a five piece in November 2014 we hastily had to choose a name for the band for our first gig. We played The Royal Meath, Navan, on August Bank Holiday Sunday. We were raw and shy and had barely enough songs to cover the two hour gig. Many thanks Karina (manager of The Royal Meath at that time) for giving us our first gig.
Steadily gaining confidence, and playing more and more gigs we came to realise that the name The Spirits Within wasn’t a memorable moniker and it was time for a re-think.
Re-branded as Patch7 we are now a four and five piece attracting a loyal following, which we really appreciate as it’s you our audience that make our night.
Let me introduce you to the band.
James - Vocals
Egged on by family to do something with his singing voice James relented and embarked on a path that would lead to the formation of the band.
A Graphic Designer by trade, James does a lot of the artwork for the band. He’s learning to play guitar at present, but his main love and first role is belting out classic rock and blues tunes to an appreciative audience.
Born and raised in Dublin, James is now living in Navan, a crackin’ town that’s just buzzing musically every weekend.
Musical influences are varied:
Rainbow, Roy Orbison, Jackie Wilson, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Fleetwook Mac, Queen, Dire Straits, and many many more.
Bojan - Lead Guitar
The co-founder of the band, Bojan, is a very talented guitarist, and also an accomplished scientist in the fields of genetics and immunology.
He is originally from Serbia where at the age of 16 he started playing guitar and trying to emulate all his guitar heroes from the 70’s and 80’s. He played with a couple of groups before leaving home to pursue his studies first in Norway, then France, and, eventually Ireland where he has been living for the last 5 years. He is really enthusiastic about taking influences from various styles such as blues, rock, pop, metal and even Serbian traditional music and incorporating them into his playing.
Musical Influences: Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore, Richie Blackmore, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rainbow, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson, Toto, Thin Lizzy, G’N’R, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Vlatko Stefanovski and many, many more…
David - Rhythm Guitar
In the early 1990s, rhythm guitarist David (12 fingers) Prendergast played the pubs and clubs of northern England before he left the music scene to train as an anthropologist at Cambridge University.
Many years later, David was in the midst of a successful career when tragedy struck his family with the death of his young daughter Beth to Leukaemia.
Following years were hard but in the midst of depression, David felt his guitar calling to him once more and after a bit of practice, the old skills started flooding back. Keen to get back to the thrill of live stage performances, David looked for some local musicians with a love for classic and hard rock and the rest is history!
Kevin – Bass
Rock and Blues has always been a passion of Kevin’s so when asked to join the new band being set up he was more than interested. Their playlist piqued his curiosity as he wanted something that stood out from other cover bands. “If you can do ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ justice, with proper guitar and the ‘frilly’ bits at the end on vocals, I’m in”, he said. Well they did, and they do, and he is.
Although never keen on guitar he found that bass came naturally to him, and this coupled with singing the backing vocals, Kevin gives his heart and soul into every gig. He has also assumed the mantel of sound engineer which is a challenge that he enjoys. Then there is his cab van ‘The Tardis’, which can transport just about anything and is a huge advantage to the band, who like to travel in comfort and style to their nationwide gigs.
Musical influences: Led Zeppellin, Pink Floyd, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Thin Lizzy, Guns’n’Roses, etc ., etc.,…
Paul - Drums
Paul our drummer is very professional in his approach to performing and has a fantastic attitude in rehearsal and gigging. He’s very knowledgable on music and he says we can thank his dad for that. Paul could be world class if he practised more and watched less football.
He has to be closely watched though as there is a fear he may possibly abscond to a heavy metal band such is his love of that genre. His love of Metal is contagious as he is definitely responsible for the more aggressive songs in the Patch7 repertoire.
Musical influences are many over different genres.
